For years, DLF has been trying to force private hospital into middle of a peaceful residential colony: Saurabh Bharadwaj

  • May 12, 2025

Hundreds of residents from Greater Kailash-I, Kailash Colony, and neighbouring areas gathered today for a peaceful sit-in protest near Archana Complex to oppose the construction of a 400-bed private hospital by Medanta in the heart of their residential locality. The protest witnessed widespread participation from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and concerned citizens, unified in their demand to halt the project immediately.

AAP Delhi State President and former MLA of Greater Kailash, Saurabh Bharadwaj, joined the protest, standing firmly with the residents. Sharing a couple of snippets from the protest on his X handle, he said: “For years, DLF has been trying to force a private hospital into the middle of a peaceful residential colony. Despite continuous opposition from residents and RWAs, the project quietly received approvals during 2021–2022 when BJP controlled the MCD and Mrs Shikha Rai was the councillor. These approvals were pushed through without transparency or consultation with RWAs.”

“While I was MLA, I made a promise to the people that I would not allow this hospital to be built—and I kept that promise. Today, construction has resumed with full force under the new MLA, Mrs Rai. Though I am no longer the MLA, I am still with the people, and I will continue to stand by their fight to protect their neighbourhood,” the post concluded.

Residents expressed serious concerns over the project’s far-reaching consequences:

The hospital’s location would lead to extreme traffic congestion, choking Hans Raj Gupta Marg and nearby routes, affecting over 50,000 residents. The project is expected to place unsustainable pressure on already burdened civic infrastructure including parking, sewage, and emergency services. There has been no credible public consultation or impact assessment, despite repeated objections by locals and RWAs.
