Senior AAP Leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has filed a formal police complaint against BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta. This complaint stems from an incident that occurred outside the Lieutenant Governor’s house on October 5, 2024, where Gupta allegedly kicked a female bus marshal.
The incident unfolded as a group of former bus marshals, accompanied by Delhi government cabinet ministers and MLAs from both AAP and BJP, attempted to meet with the LG. However, their request was denied. During this time, a female bus marshal reported to Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj that she had been kicked by Vijender Gupta. Multiple witnesses corroborated her account following which Saurabh Bharadwaj and the victim approached SHO Satvinder Rana, who was present at the scene, to file their complaint. The minister also documented the sequence on video which has been made available to the police.
In his statement, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed concern for the well-being of the bus marshals involved. “Yesterday, I tweeted a video of two female bus marshals. One was named Pankaj, and she tearfully reported that BJP MLA Vijender Gupta kicked her. The other girl was named Zubaida; she said that she was hit by a police officer, and was crying. The officer assured us that they would send her for a medical examination (MLC). We haven’t been able to get in touch with either of the women since then. We fear that something unfortunate might happen with them so we have again filed a formal complaint.”
Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “The very fact that Vijender Gupta has used police administration to file fake FIRs against AAP ministers and MLAs and innocent bus marshals shows that Vijender Gupta was not ready and not wanting to meet the LG and it was only because of the pressure of Civil Defence volunteers and MLAs that he had to approach LG. This means Vijender Gupta has been exposed and because of his frustration he is now trying to implicate AAP MLAs and innocent bus marshals into false cases. This is complete misuse of police machinery and this shows that the LG office and the BJP MLA are in connivance and they are misusing police machinery to stop the bus marshals from demanding their rights.”
In addition to Saurabh Bharadwaj’s complaint, Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla has also lodged a complaint against Gupta for alleged harassment due to her Dalit caste.
Furthermore, another civil defense volunteer has filed a separate complaint that Gupta kicked her as the volunteers sought clarification on a cabinet note outside the LG House. As per the complainant when Vijender Gupta came out of the LG House all the civil defense volunteers and bus marshals wanted to know from him what happened to the cabinet note. They asked him whether it had been approved by the LG or not but Gupta instead of speaking to the civil volunteers wanted to run away and at that same time civil defense kicked another civil defense volunteer.
