AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal slams BJP LG’s illegal push for MCD Standing Committee elections, declaring that the LG is bypassing rules and acting with dubious intent. The AAP chief asserts that only the Mayor has the authority to preside over the House, as mandated by law.
AAP’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that it is clearly written in the MCD law that the right to call a meeting of the House is only with the Mayor. “No one other than the Mayor has the right to call a meeting of the House. LG Saab or Commissioner cannot call a meeting of the MCD House. Only the mayor can call a meeting of the House and the meeting will also be presided over by the Mayor,” he affirmed.
The AAP Supremo stated that bypassing the rules, LG Saab called the MCD meeting and nominated an IAS officer to preside over it. In this way, tomorrow they will say that the Home Secretary will preside over the Lok Sabha meeting. We live in a democracy. Apart from this, it is written in the law that whenever the meeting is called, 72 hours will be given. If a councilor has gone out or is not available, they need some time to reach on time.
“There seems to be a flaw in their intentions. There seems to be a conspiracy to do some wrong in the elections. That is why they are engaged in conducting the elections by any means,” hinted the AAP chief.
Arvind Kejriwal said that I have come to know that the Mayor has written a letter to the MCD Commissioner. She has declared the Standing Committee election scheduled for Friday at 1 pm as illegal and unconstitutional. The Mayor has also ordered the Commissioner not to hold the election today.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi expressed on her ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter), stating: “The election to the 6th member of the Standing Committee declared by the Central Govt appointed MCD Commissioner, on the directions of BJP’s @LtGovDelhi is illegal and unconstitutional.”
“As per the MCD Act, only the Mayor has the power to convene the House and to be Presiding Officer. If an Addl (Additional) Commissioner replaces the Mayor in the Corporation today, tmrw (tomorrow) BJP might have the Home Secy (Secretary) replace the Speaker in the Lok Sabha!” concluded Delhi CM’s post.

On the other hand, AAP MLAs protested outside Delhi Assembly against the murder of Constitution by BJP’s LG Vinai Saxena with the abrupt order of the MCD Standing Committee member election.
During this, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar stated that Only the Mayor has the right to adjourn the MCD House and also to conduct elections. But LG Saab wrote a letter yesterday asking to conduct the election of the standing committee members at 10 pm and then by ordering to conduct the election today at 1 pm, he has tried to murder democracy. This country will be run by Baba Saheb’s Constitution and not by dictatorship.
