In view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the National Capital, the Aam Aadmi Party has demanded the resignation of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for his failure to control crime in Delhi.
Senior AAP leader and party’s chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the LG, who is directly responsible for maintaining the law and order in Delhi, has utterly failed in his duty as crimes are being committed with impunity.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters today, Priyanka Kakkar said on 6th September, a very shocking incident came to light. You must have seen the viral video in which four criminals carrying guns go to a club in Seemapuri, East Delhi, to extort money. There, they ask the bouncers to get down on their knees and open fire. At least 12 rounds of firing took place brazenly in the Seemapuri area of the country’s capital Delhi.
A video of the incident was also played before the media persons to show how brazenly the criminals fired shots during the incident.
Reminding the media persons of the major crimes that took place in Delhi in the recent past, the AAP chief spokesperson said this is not the first isolated incident. You must remember that on 15th July, criminals entered the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where a patient was undergoing treatment and shot him dead. You must remember that on 26th June last year, in broad daylight, four bike-borne youths surrounded a car and looted it at the Pragati Maidan Tunnel. You must also remember that a doctor, who was a senior citizen, died in an attempted robbery in Jangpura. You will remember that Rs 24-25 crore was looted from a jewellery shop in Jangpura. There too everything was captured on CCTV. “Ever since LG VK Saxena has taken over the responsibility of law and order in Delhi, the law and order situation in Delhi has gone from bad to worse,” she said.
Priyanka Kakkar said the NCRB data says that 1832 crimes take place on a population of 1 lakh in Delhi but only 30% of the cases have a chargesheet. You will remember that when violence took place in the JNU, Komal Sharma, whom you all recognized, the police recognized her, was neither arrested, nor was any chargesheet filed in that case. Because she was a member of the BJP’s student wing. “Wherever the law and order is under BJP’s control in the country, the situation has gone from bad to worse, it has failed miserably. The senior AAP leader said you must have seen that in Haryana also the BJP gave ticket to the wife of a gangster. The BJP repeatedly protects criminals and boosts their morale.
Questioning the competence of the LG, Delhi in checking the rising crime in Delhi, Priyanka Kakkar said what steps did the LG of Delhi take regarding police reforms, how many PCR vans did he increase? What did he do to fill up the vacancies in the police force? How many times did he call the Police Commissioner and held meetings with him? Nothing is known about it. But the figures of NCRB clearly show that LG Vinay Saxena has been the most incompetent LG of Delhi. He cannot handle the law and is busy in snatching the powers of Delhi government. He cannot handle the law and whenever there is any work of Delhi government, he quickly comes to click photos.
The AAP chief spokesperson reasoned if such LG should remain on his constitutional post? “He is spending money on social media. Should he not give information on social media about how the law and order situation is getting worse under him and what steps he has taken. Such an incompetent LG has no right to remain on his post and he should resign,” demanded Priyanka Kakkar.
